A warm thank you to Gemma and Jacky for hosting us at the Atkinson for a visit to the Windrush Exhibition: Our Story, Our Community.
Despite a few hiccups (like a leaky roof in the exhibition area!), we gathered to watch the powerful short documentary and engage in important conversations about the Windrush Generation's experiences in Southport.
The men and women speaking in the documentary gave powerful first hand accounts of their early experiences leaving the Caribbean to come to Britain as children.
We discussed what it feels like to be seen as different, the impact of racism, and the incredible resilience within the Windrush community. These conversations were meaningful, reminding us all of the ongoing journey toward understanding and unity.
We were invited to SACHA events (Southport African Caribbean Heritage Association). It's through these connections that we continue to build stronger bonds, foster empathy, and move toward a more inclusive future.
