John Westhead’s story is truly a remarkable experience of one exceptional man, his bravery, his love of animals and their welfare and finally his unfortunate death and burial in France. A LIFE GIVEN FOR KING AND COUNTRY.

Documents and letters about John Westhead’s experiences in France during World War 1 are regarded as GOLD DUST by World War 1 Historian and aAntiques Road Show Expert.

Despite being over the age limit (42 at the time), he volunteered for the army in 1915 and served as a farrier in France. He was killed in action on 21 October 1916, by a piece of shrapnel while in his tent in France. He is commemorated on the Newburgh War Memorial.

The evening starts with a 2 course evening meal followed by a talk and presentation on John Westwood, all for a low cost of £20.
