Walking on the Wirral
On a beautiful warm day at the end of June, the Monday walking group set off for the Wirral Coastal Path. We caught the train to Moreton for the 6 plus mile walk to West Kirby.
Our walk leader Dave is well known for preparing a quiz for the group. This kept us entertained when our train was delayed.
We were stunned by the spread of wild flowers planted and left to flourish near the promenade.
Dave had done his research and told us all about Leasowe Lighthouse.
It is a historic lighthouse built in 1763 by The Mersey Docks and Harbour Company to guide shipping safely to the Port of Liverpool. It is the oldest lighthouse built from bricks in the United Kingdom.
After a leisurely lunch, we continued to see an old drinking fountain, some stunning artwork of the local wildlife and fabulous views of Hilbre Island.
Some of us left the group at Hoylake as the temperature was reaching the high 20s but the hardy continued to make the traditional pub stop at West Kirby before heading home.
