Beer Tasting at the Masons Arms

No, it isn’t what you think - a night out on the lash legitimised by calling it an interest group...

...nor is it a men’s drinking club whose earnest members turn up on bikes sporting long shorts, hairy legs, sandals with socks and discuss hop types and specific gravity: the reality is somewhere in between.

Our current monthly venue is the Masons Arms in Anchor Street, an old-fashioned drinkers' pub and an endangered phenomenon, especially in a seaside town.

When the group first started, being the only female member and not to mention a confirmed lager drinker, I was reluctant to expose myself to the seemingly male preserve of English ales. Being used to the bland much-of-a-muchness taste of lager I had no idea of the nuances of flavours produced in the brewing of proper beers. Having tasted the delights of Dizzy Blonde and Plum Porter there’s no going back!
