In a departure from our usual night out, Meols Evening Meals had a fabulous Friday night banquet to celebrate the Chinese New Year and the year of the horse at the Empire Chinese Restaurant.  The place was packed, but we had managed to secure three large tables to accommodate 30 members.

The highlight of the evening was the arrival of lion dancers with two lions and a 10 metre long illuminated dragon.  These were operated by amazingly energetic young people from the Liverpool Hung Gar Kung Fu Club.  It included one dragon climbing a 5 metre free standing pole to do something traditional with an iceberg lettuce, which was as baffling as it was entertaining.

As well as a fabulous banquet, there was a huge huge raffle with almost 100 prizes including a top cash prize of £150.  Hilary has already made a provisional booking for next year.

The year of the horse represents a shift towards energy, freedom and ambition, which nicely sums up Meols u3a!
