A memorable visit to one of Liverpool's historic treasures
A group of Meols u3a members enjoyed a wonderful visit to Speke Hall. The striking black-and-white timbered
house, beautiful gardens and centuries of history made it a truly memorable day.
A little history Speke Hall is a rare Tudor timber-framed manor house, built in stages by the Norris family from
the 1530s to the late 1600s. The devoutly Catholic family included a secret priest hole during a period of
religious persecution. After years of neglect, the Hall was restored in Victorian Gothic style by the Watt family,
whose wealth had links to slavery and Jamaican plantations.

It passed to the National Trust in 1943 and is now preserved with its gardens and estate.
