25 Meols u3a members drove to Dewlay Cheese in Garstang. After refreshments they were given a introductory talk by the third generation owner on the history of Dewlay Cheese which was founded in 1957 and has expanded to supply all major supermarket chains in the UK as well as selling to distributors around the world, currently they manufacture 40 tonnes of a variety of Lancashire cheeses per week.

Our members were then taken on a tour of Dewlay Lancashire cheese production line, which has ultra modern machinery and is fully automated. Alongside their cheese dairy they have have state of the art cutting, packaging and cold storage facility. With grating, slicing, pre-pack and foodservice lines, Dewlay are able to meet the demands for supplying quality, handcrafted cheese in convenient packs.

All members had a wonderful experience and enjoyed every part of the guided tour, after sampling a range of Lancashire cheeses made by Dewlay and shopping in their well stocked retail outlet. All members left for their trip back to Southport relaxed and pleased they had made the trip,
