A coach trip to Delph in Greater Manchester to see one of the largest annual Brass Band competitions in the region. On route a late lunch at the Olympus Fish and Chip Restaurant, an award-winning and very popular restaurant.

If you have ever seen the film Brassed Off, you will know that these Whit Friday competitions are major events across Lancashire and Yorkshire. One of the organisers at Delph appeared in the film as one of the adjudicators at the Halifax competition.

At Delph the bands march through the village streets as well as performing in a small arena with seating. It is a lively occasion, with a band passing roughly every six minutes – about ten an hour. The village really comes alive for the event and the local pubs and cafés are very welcoming if you want to take a break or use facilities during the evening.

Our plan is to start coach pick-ups at around 11.45am. On the way we will stop in Bolton for a late lunch at the Olympus Fish and Chip Restaurant, an award-winning and very popular restaurant. We can arrange a group party rate for fish, chips, bread and butter and tea or coffee, although other options are also available.

After lunch we will continue to Delph, arriving around 3pm, which will give us time to have a wander around the village before the bands start performing at 4pm.

We plan to leave Delph at about 8.30pm. This will be before the final judging takes place, but by then you will have seen plenty of bands and experienced the atmosphere of the evening. We expect to arrive back in Southport around 10.30pm, and as it will be late we will make a few additional drop-off stops along the route where possible.
